Spring Break Road Trip {Part One: Atlanta Aquarium & Macon, GA}

On the 31st of March we kissed Little M goodbye, packed up the Suburban and started our 10 day Spring Break road trip. First stop was Atlanta, Georgia and the amazing Georgia Aquarium.

The imputus for this stop on our road trip was our budding Elasmobranchologist (shark scientist---no worries I googled this one myself too) as the Georgia aquarium is home to 4 whale sharks, which are the largest fish in the sea.

Peanut was completely mesmerized and we spent at least an hour in this section of the aquarium watching as these gentle giants swim past.

In addition to the whale sharks, we were lucky enough to catch the exhibit Sea Monsters Revealed. This touring exhibit featured marine animals who have expired due to natural causes, but their bodies have been preserved for display. It was completely fascinating!  If you are within driving distance of the Georgia aquarium you must be certain to see this once in a lifetime exhibit.

The aquarium also features such beauties as beluga whales, penguins, sea horses, jellies, and the most entertaining dolphin show. In fact it is more like Joseph and The Technicolor Dream Coat meets Flipper...certainly not to be missed.

This little guy reminded each of us of our Little M who has quite the "milk belly".

 Two of the most interesting animals on display are pictured below: shark embryos where you could actually see the fetus swimming inside & two albino alligators.

 Belle & Peanut used some of their spending money from the Grandparents to select a penguin & whale shark stuffies as souvenirs.  We took in a few sights around Atlanta before hoping in the car and heading off to Macon, GA.

Macon, GA was a convenient stopover as we headed about our road trip. This sleepy little downtown had just finished up hosting their annual Cherry blossom festival and we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of some of the last blooms.

We walked around downtown taking in the sites and ended up at the local eatery The Rookery where we dined on features like coca cola ketchup burgers and homemade chips with pimento cheese. This is when Hubby & I realized dieting for the next 10 days was out the window. After all, when in Rome.

We each left our mark on the restaurant walls/table before retiring to our hotel for a little dip in the pool, cookies in the concierge lounge (a huge hit with the littles) and a couple of good reads.
Next stop...Savannah!
