Manor Monday {New Playroom Table & Bookshelves}

My little Baby Bear is sick so the post is going to be quick. We are making progress in the basement. Slow progress, but progress none the less. Last week Hubby brought a set of bookshelves from the garage down to the playroom. One thing about my littles, if they can't see it, they won't play with it. So having toys visible is a must and the bookshelves help to keep them busy. Busy kiddies = happy mommy.

As we rework this space, I wanted to incorporate a table for arts & crafts and lego building. When Belle was a baby we purchased a Land of Nod Activity Table, which is designed to grow with your child.
I lucked out finding a set of 30"legs for the table discounted 30% off at the LON outlet.

But the deals get better, I managed to score seating for 75% off at Target! I never find deals on items I actually need!

So here is our new art/lego/snack table and stools:

I purchased the stools with the plan to paint them, but Belle & Hubby vetoed the idea in favor of the green color. I love that the stools push neatly under the table, as not to eat up valuable floor space.

It is also nice to have a safe spot to rest my tea or have a seat while the boys play.

And with that I'm off to bed...cross your fingers that the motrin works and I'm not up with a sick baby all night.

Family Friday {Daddy/Daughter Dance}

Today I dolled up my baby girl and sent her off to her first formal with my darling Hubby as her date. To see her face light up when Hubby pulled out her corsage was truly a magical moment…I'm so glad I was glued behind the camera to capture it.

The boys and I had a pizza and movie night at home while the special couple met up with Belle's Bestie A & her Daddy for dinner before the big dance.

And I'll have you know, my sweet Peanut didn't want my to be left out so he brought me home a bouquet of hand selected blooms as a special surprise. Oh my sweet boy you are going to make some woman very luck one day, but for now you are all mine!

I'm waiting up to hear all about the big dance while Peanut is snoozing away on the couch next to me. He says he can't go to bed without his sissy…..days like today (even with in insane amount of chaos) make life worth living. #blessed

PS- Love seeing snip its of our family life? I just joined instagram so feel free to follow along. This past week I posted video of the littles snowboarding, my recent Juliska score & our groundhog's day cake pops.

Want It Wednesday {Kitchen Chairs}

Let's talk dining chairs. Our current kitchen chairs have to go. The littles have a difficult time maneuvering them and blame the hard seats for the ants in their pants during dinnertime. Decorating paralysis has stopped me from making a decision for well over a year. After repeated reminders to return to their seats, I've finally hit my breaking point and I'm ready to make a switch.  Here's a run down of the chairs that have caught my eye.

Love this one but not sure if I could handle the blue on a daily basis.

Similar to the one above, but toned down.

Classic French ladderback…just can't go wrong with this. Plus it could transition easily into formal dining.

Cafe chair which would work great for the littles now, but don't think it is substantial enough for the future. Plus I can't imagine sitting in this for any length of time.

I have always loved Chinese Chippendale chairs, just don't think they are a livable solution for everyday dining.

Oh I wish I could just bring each of these home & place them around the kitchen table for a test run. But I'm pretty sure there isn't a retailer out there who would give a family with a 2, 5, & 8 year old dining chairs to "try out". Can you say spaghetti!

Anyone else dealing with decorating paralysis? If it was you, which chair would you select?

Manor Monday {Organized Closets & Kitchen Pantry}

Happy Monday everyone. Did you enjoy your weekend? We had the chance to enjoy some family time in the snow and wrapped it all up with a low key Super Bowl party at our house.

On the home front, things have been pretty quite, but I have had the chance to start organizing some of our closets. It is amazing how having an organized & uncluttered closet makes doing laundry so much more enjoyable tolerable.

I now display my necklaces and scarves on divided pant hangers.

And when it came to workout wear, I decided to hang my tops rather than storing them in a dresser drawer. Why not feel like I'm shopping at Lululemon when I'm getting ready for a run!?!

In each of the little's closets, I went though and weeded out the outgrown/stained/torn/tired pieces of clothing & refilled the closet according to color & function.

Finally, I have to confess my undying love for Target. I found these cute take out containers in the dollar spot & used them to organize our fold out kitchen pantry.

They hold our snack staples making it easy for my to see at a glance exactly what we are running low on (ie: no longer reaching into a pack box only to realize it is empty).

Having these areas organized makes such a difference in our day to day life. How about you, made any tweaks around the house lately? Any organizing projects?

Family Friday {Around the House, Open House, & Instagram}

It is February 1st & I am officially OVER winter. Bring on the Spring!

AROUND THE HOUSE

We spent most of the week being cooped up due to frigid temps. This poor babe wanted to go outside so badly he refused to take off his hat & "at-min oots" (batman boots) after dropping off Peanut at preschool.

We've completed every puzzle.

Painted & crafted more than 2 boys care to.

And played countless rounds of hide & seek to pass the hours.

When temps finally reached the 20s, we headed outside to take a good look around.

Towards the week's end, we even ventured out for music class with Cousin Y and a much needed library trip to visit Bear's favorite duck puppet.

I'm pretty sure that puppet is older than I am & hasn't been washed since, but for whatever reason he is smitten.

OPEN HOUSE

Thursday night was Open House at Belle's school and the boys love getting to look around her room.
Belle's dream house: yellow, round like an egg & in Colorado!?!

The main difference this year was Belle's pressing social schedule. Apparently showing us around was impeding upon planned activities with her little besties A & C.... so it begins! Belle did sing a solo in the music room, which I have tried numerous times to load with no luck. I am very proud of her, that takes some guts baby girl!!

INSTAGRAM

I finally bit the bullet the other day & joined instagram. You can follow me at monogramsnmud.
Not sure how active I'll be, but it seems like an easy way to catalog our family's coming & goings
of which I'm very much a fan.

Final thought, 26 days and this little one will be TWO! I can not believe it...someone please tell me how to slow this train down!

Enjoy the weekend...and if you need any football inspiration for Sunday's big game check out Peanut's football themed birthday party from last year.

His party favors were a snap to whip up and would make a great addition to your pigskin party!

Want It Wednesday {Vineyard Vines Mega Sale & Tory Burch Tote}

I am going to divert from home decor to talk fashion…particularly resort wear because given the frigid temps and snow we've been dealing with around here, I am eagerly counting down the days until we are on Spring Break with our toes in the sand!

So while I was browsing Vineyard Vines for beachy lovelies like:

To go along with the Tory Burch Marion Patchwork Tote I am crushing on:

I was thrilled to discover that all Vineyard Vines' Final Sale items are still an additional 50% off!
I happily snatched up these matching cords for the boys to wear next Christmas.

whale cords
Have I mentioned that our school mascot is the whale making it totally acceptable to sport whale embroidered clothing in the midwest in December.

I can't get enough of the pom-pom & whale combo on the hat I ordered for Belle.

And I also grabbed a few goodies for the Hubby & myself.

So if you are still trapped indoors on account of the weather, try curing your cabin fever with some major bargains at vv!

Happy Shopping & be sure to leave a comment and let me know what you snagged…the best part about getting a deal is sharing it!

Manor Monday {Foyer & Flowers}

I have a giant goose egg to report on the basement progress. Neither Hubby nor I did a single thing I listed as last weeks goals. Rather than sort & clean, label & paint we spent our time in the basement shooting baskets, running miles, giving airplane rides in the jumpy and reading countless stories cuddled on the couch…. time much wiser spent. I do have some decorating changes to share, which are prettier to look at anyway.

In the foyer, I switched up the mirrored console table decor. It is much more reflective of this homes style. Cream, gold & gray work so well in this space. Throw in a little blue & white for good measure and I'm slowly but surely cracking the code of just how I want to decorate this house….it only took 4 years.

I stumbled across these pen & ink house drawings at a local store. With their gold leaf frames & black mats I knew they would be perfect for our home. They first lived on the bookshelf in the office before being moved to the hallway leading from the foyer to the kitchen. Now hung one above the other in the under the staircase, I think they have found their permemant home.

I still can not wait to have the stairs and railings painted, but this quick vignette switch has me smiling every time I walk by. Isn't it amazing how you can change the whole feel of a space by creating new pairings from accessories you already own? Shopping your house is the best design tip of all.

And while we are on the subject of design tips & accessorizing lets talk fresh flowers. They can take a space from drab to fab, but sadly the trick isn't permanent and you are back to a blank space in a few short days. A few varieties last longer like spray roses pictured in my living room below, but generally speaking fresh cut flowers aren't winners in the longevity department.

Enter the solution: potted flowers. For the same price as fresh cut blooms, you can purchase a potted plant that will give you weeks of beauty.  This month I began adding to our collection of potted blooms throughout the house. It all began with the paperwhites & poinsettias from Christmas that are still decorating the living and dining room.

In our master bedroom I planted a $4 hyacinth in a clear compote dish. The scent is intoxicating.

In the family room, buttery tulips tower over the coffee table hinting that it isn't too much longer until spring arrives.

A quick shot of the new family room mantel and the fireplace screen finally in painted…thanks Hubby:)

And finally, white orchids take center stage on the kitchen table. I saw this arrangement in a pottery barn catalog and realized I had the perfect "bowl" to recreate the look.

 After two weeks the blooms are still going strong and I'm crossing my fingers my black thumb might just be changing.

The littles are home from school today and tomorrow on account of the arctic temps and brutal winds outside. Having a house full of flowers lifts your spirits on frigid days…even if you are sipping hot cocoa while admiring your tulips!

Anyone else on the potted flower bandwagon? Any tips for turning a black thumb green?
